We all know Shazam—the app that’s been around for a while, helping us figure out what song is playing. Whenever you hear a tune you like but can’t remember the title or artist, Shazam listens and identifies it for you. It’s a tool that’s become super popular on smartphones.
But here’s the exciting part: Android just stepped up the game. They’ve promised a new tool that will identify songs faster without even needing to open a search app. This tool, created by Google, is designed to be super efficient.
Google’s Song Search: A Faster Alternative
The new improvement is currently available in the Beta version of the Google app. This feature, called Song Search, can be added directly to your phone’s notification bar as a quick setting. What’s cool is that you can use it without interrupting whatever else you’re doing on your phone at the time.
To use it, just add Song Search to your quick settings menu. You can do this by pulling down the quick settings on your phone and tapping the button to add a new shortcut. Then, place it wherever you like. Once it’s there, you’re ready to identify songs on the go!
If you’re eager to try it, you can download the Beta version of the Google app from Apkmirror to get this feature ahead of time. But if you don’t want to mess with betas, you can wait until it’s officially released for everyone.
How It Works: A Glimpse into the Future
When you tap the Song Search shortcut, a full-screen effect pops up, similar to what was introduced earlier this year. Once a match is found, you’ll be taken to a Google Search results page that gives you all the details on the song. This is actually the first quick setting tile (QS) from the Google app, and something similar could be really helpful for Wear OS as well.
In fact, this quick access arrives right after Google’s iOS app launched a customizable search widget, which also includes a way to identify songs fast. And don’t worry, Android users, something similar is in the works for you, too.
More Ways to Search for Songs
This feature joins the many options already available for finding songs, like the widget you can add to your home screen, tapping the voice microphone in the search bar, using Google Assistant or even humming the melody. Google is making it easier than ever to get the name of that catchy song stuck in your head.
The Future of Song Identification
With all these new features, both Android and Samsung are making sure you’ll never have to wonder what song is playing again. Whether you use Google’s Song Search or Samsung’s Circle to Search with music recognition, identifying songs is now faster and easier than ever. Shazam better watch out!
